A man brandished a long-bladed knife as he demanded cigarettes at a Te Awamatu dairy tonight.
The man entered the Puniu Road Dairy about 6.15pm and pointed the knife at the storekeeper when demanding the cigarettes.
Police said she made an excuse to go to the rear of the store to consult another worker and the man left without taking anything.
He was described as a male Caucasian, approximately 178 to 182 cm tall, of slim build and wearing blue jeans, black hooded sweat shirt, brown baseball cap and a black bandana that covered most of his face.
