Man found with blade in face

A man was found with a knife blade embedded in his face after being stabbed in Paeroa overnight.

Two men are due to be interviewed by police this morning in relation to the incident.

Police were called to a Menzies Place house shortly after 11pm, Detective Senior Sergeant Mike Whitehead said.

"On their arrival they found a 26-year-old man with the blade of a knife embedded in his face. The wound was just below eye level and the blade appears to have passed through the roof of his mouth.

"The injury was serious but did not appear to be life-threatening and he was transported to Waikato Hospital by ambulance," Mr Whitehead said.

A 20-year-old woman at the house sustained minor injuries to her neck and was taken to Thames Hospital.

An investigation into how the pair sustained their injuries was under way and a scene guard was placed over the property overnight.

"The property will be examined today. It appears a number of people were drinking at the address last night and two men, located at another address in the town overnight will be interviewed by detectives today in relation to the matter," Mr Whitehead said.
