Man killed in crash north of Christchurch named

The man who died after his car hit a tree in North Canterbury at the weekend has been named by police.

Hamish Stewart (22). of Christchurch, died at the scene after the crash on State Highway 1 in the Hurunui district, north of Christchurch, about 4.20pm on Saturday.

He was the car's sole occupant.

Police said Mr Stewart was heading towards Christchurch when he lost control and crashed into a tree at the bottom of a hill.
