Man lay dead for nine days in Auckland flat

A man's body lay in his Auckland flat for nine days before it was found after worried neighbours called police.

David Weatherell, 64, was believed to have died on September 19 in his unit in the Auckland suburb of Pt Chevalier. He was found on September 28 when neighbours realised they had not seen him for some time, said the New Zealand Herald today.

Police said there was nothing suspicious circumstances about his death but Age Concern said it was a reminder to look out for the vulnerable in our society.

A death noticed said Mr Weatherell was a "dearly loved father, stepfather, brother, uncle and friend".

His death was believed to have followed a brief illness for which he did not seek medical treatment.
