Police have warned a well dressed man posing as a truancy officer could strike again after he lured a teenage girl into his car and sexually assaulted her.
The man pulled up alongside a 15-year-old girl walking on Hobsonville Rd near the Hobsonville RSA between 12.30pm and 1pm on Tuesday and told her he was a truancy officer.
He said he had to drive her to her home to ensure she was not wagging school and sexually assaulted her, said police.
Yesterday police warned all schools in Auckland of Tuesday's attack amid fears the man could strike again.
Detective Sergeant Steve Salton of Henderson police told the New Zealand Herald the girl was going home to study when the man approached her.
He said the man wore black dress pants and a tidy blue or black shirt and drove a white, older-model stationwagon.
"He's told her he was a truancy officer and to get in his car to ensure she's not wagging, and he's taken her to her home address where the assault's taken place," he told the newspaper.
He said it was a calculated attack, the man was very calm and may have knowledge of how truancy officers worked.
"It's a worrying aspect that he was so calm."
The man sped off from the girl's house after the attack and she called the police.
Police said they would do more traffic stops in the area today seeking clues about the man's identity.
The attacker was a fat or stocky Pacific Islander, aged about 40. He was about 165cm tall with very short hair.
