Man remanded over round-house kick to head

A man who "round-house" kicked an overseas visitor late on Sunday night appeared in Tauranga District Court today on a charge of injuring with intent to injure.

Judge Christopher Harding remanded Adam Harold, a 24-year-old Hamilton labourer, in custody to appear for sentence on January 21.

The victim was waiting in line outside the Mt Maunganui ANZ bank about 11pm to buy tickets for an up-coming Blues, Brews and BBQs event.

Harold pulled up in a car, the court heard, and asked the Englishman for a cigarette.

As the 46-year-old visitor was reaching for one, Harold got out of the vehicle and round-house kicked him.

Prosecuting Sergeant Craig Kitto said there were repeated kicks to the head which left gashes.

A passing motorist rang police and followed the assailant to an address. Harold denied his involvement when officers spoke to him there but pleaded guilty in court.
