A man accused of murdering a toddler in Palmerston North last month can now be identified.

Sean Donnelly, a security worker, had his name suppression lifted when he reappeared in Palmerston North District Court this afternoon accused of murdering three-year-old Kash McKinnon.

Defence lawyer Peter Coles said he had no reason to ask for a continuance. Donnelly was further remanded in custody without plea to September 23.

Kash was found with critical head injuries at a house in Hulme St on August 19.

She died in Palmerston North Hospital the next day.

Donnelly is not related to the dead girl.

Around 20 people, including supporters of Donnelly, filled the public gallery for the brief hearing.
