A New Zealand children's author has been awarded a three-month University of Iowa residency by Creative New Zealand to participate in the university's international writers programme.
Kathy White, the author of 13 books and more than 100 magazine articles and plays, said she hoped the residency would give her the time and inspiration to finish her first full-length kids novel.
Creative New Zealand chief executive Stephen Wainwright said the Iowa residency was an excellent and unique professional development opportunity for established New Zealand authors.
The partnership between Creative New Zealand and the University of Iowa enables a New Zealand writer to live and work at the University of Iowa in the United States, and includes travel costs, accommodation and a $10,000 Creative New Zealand grant.
