The Ministry of Health is in discussions with Fiji about bringing a Covid-19 patient to New Zealand.

It would involve a possible air transfer of the person, who needs hospital-level care.

The ministry said any patient coming from Fiji, or any other country, would be covered by protocols to protect against the risk of spreading Covid.

The ministry said it hadn't received a formal request at this stage, but was aware of the demand on health services in Fiji and would be looking to see what assistance could be provided.

Fiji recorded nine deaths and 626 new locally acquired cases of Covid-19 in the 24 hours to 8am yesterday.

That compares to 684 infections and five deaths in the previous 24-hour period.

There have now been 186 deaths due to Covid-19 in Fiji - 184 of these during the outbreak that started in April this year.

Fiji now has over 17,000 active Covid cases in isolation.

The most inept Ministry in New Zealand looking at flying in an infected person, what could possibly go wrong?

On what basis do you grade them the most inept Ministry in NZ?
I would grade them as one of the best.
They've guided us through the first pandemic in over 100 years. They had no manual, no guide, they did it from scratch and they've managed to keep the disease, apart from a few minor flare ups, out of this country. I think they have done exceedingly well and the rest of the world agrees with me.
Yes they've made mistakes, yes they've had to constantly revamp and revise the rules and put tighter controls in place, but this is dealing with a totally new situation, they've been flexible, they've been responsive and they've been phenomenal.

Now, The District Health Boards are inept, no question there. They've been given a single job, run the vaccination roll out and they can't do it. That's where the ineptnesss is, not in the Ministry.

Let Bainimarama get some of his Chinese friends to help. Much of this and the deaths are due to his stubborness. One wonders just who this infected person is?
