One person is dead and two others are seriously injured after a serious crash on a Wellington highway this morning.
Emergency services closed State Highway 58 over the Haywards Hill, between Pauatahanui and SH2, after the crash shortly before 7am.
Senior Sergeant Pete Theobald of police central communications said one person died in the three-vehicle crash. Two other people were taken to hospital with serious injuries.
The road is expected to remain closed for several hours while the police serious crash unit investigates.
Motorists are asked to avoid the area or delay travel.
