A male pedestrian who died after being struck by a vehicle on State Highway 1 in Mid-Canterbury has been named.
Alan Hammond (80), of Ashburton, was hit about 5km south of Hinds on the Hinds-Rangitata Highway about 3.15am yesterday.
Police said the driver of the vehicle spoke to officers at the crash scene.
Enquiries into the circumstances of the incident are continuing.
