Police looking for a gunman who fired shots in a Lower Hutt suburb last night are asking for sightings of two vehicles seen speeding away from the scene.
Detective Sergeant Mike Sears said police were called to an area in Waiwhetu near Cambridge Terrace and Hawkins Street just before midnight after residents reported seeing between three and six shots being fired.
Police recovered cartridges and were conducting a scene examination and an area canvas talking to nearby residents, Mr Sears said.
He asked anyone who had seen white van and a white hatchback being driven away from the area at speed to come forward.
Police had received no reports of damage or injury.
