Police seek witnesses to hit and run

Police have yet to find any witnesses to a hit-and-run which resulted in the death a mother of two riding her bike on the outskirts of Christchurch yesterday morning.

The driver left the scene after colliding with the 42-year-old woman at the intersection of Marshs and Springs Road, between 7am and 7.15am, police said.

"We've got a lot of people who have seen the bike lying in the middle of the road but no-one's actually seen the crash itself," acting Detective Sergeant Michael Ford told NZPA today.

Police wanted to speak to the driver, or anyone who saw the crash or had any information about the car or the driver, he said.

The driver would have been well aware they had hit something, police said.

The woman's name was expected to be released this afternoon.
