Police warn motorists to take care during Easter

Police are warning motorists to take care on the roads this Easter holiday, advising people to take extra care, watch their speed and travelling distances.

During last year's Easter holidays seven people died in road accidents, compared with nine in 2008 and six in 2007.

Road users should not endanger themselves or others and make sensible and careful decisions when driving over this busy time of year, road policing national manager Superintendent Paula Rose said.

"As Easter comes around, police want everyone to be mindful of the risks," she said.

"Holiday driving requires extra care and patience, and most drivers understand this."

This Easter, police will be emphasising keeping traffic flowing smoothly to reduce driver frustration and delays, encouraging slower drivers to pull over and continuing to deter drink-drivers and those who drive too fast for the conditions, she said.
