A 29-year-old inmate is in a stable condition after a stabbing at Spring Hill Prison near Meremere, Newstalk ZB reports.
The prisoner was initially rushed to Waikato Hospital in critical condition, but has stabilised overnight.
It's still unclear what led to the violent incident.
