Private investigation traps dairy thief

A private investigation nailed a man who managed to steal nearly $53,000 worth of butter and cheese from a Palmerston North company.

Goodman Fielder carried out the investigation and found that Donald Laurence George Fraser, 32, was taking the produce from their Longburn site, Palmerston North District Court was told.

Fraser pleaded guilty yesterday to stealing six pallets of butter and 11 of cheese, the Manawatu Standard reported.

The thefts were carried out between February last year and March this year while Fraser was employed by the company as a truck driver.

Police prosecutor Sergeant Murray Lyons said that during his working week Fraser would arrange the sale of the stolen products.

Fraser will be sentenced on May 5.
