Register for red zone access, Cera says

Christchurch residents and business owners wanting to retrieve property from the city's quake-damaged red zone are being urged to register with the Earthquake Recovery News and Information (Erni) service.

"Getting back personal and important possessions can help people enormously," Canterbury Earthquake Recovery Authority (Cera) interim chief executive John Ombler said.

"Once you're registered with Erni, and if your building is deemed safe, we can provide a two- to three-hour opportunity for you to remove personal items."

To date, 230 residents and staff from 1000 businesses have returned to collect essential items.

Mr Omber said people needed to register for the resident, business or temporary access programmes by May 31.
