A 37-year-old man has been remanded in custody on charges of burgling two houses in which police say women were sexually attacked and robbed.
Edwin John Tuhua, unemployed, did not seek bail when he appeared in Christchurch District Court before Judge David Saunders, Christchurch Court News website reported.
He was remanded in custody to March 6, without plea, on eight charges.
In a statement last week, police said they had been waiting for the High Court to grant their application for a suspect compulsion order to obtain a DNA sample, before laying the charges.
The man is alleged to have burgled homes in Avonhead on July 23 and Dallington on September 3.
In the first burglary, police say he indecently assaulted a 67-year-old woman, robbed her of $90, and assaulted her with intent to commit sexual violation.
He faces the same charges in relation to a 58-year-old woman for the second burglary, where the police allege $190 was taken in the robbery.
