Singer to ask SA for help over molestation charges

A South African singer living in New Zealand, Jurie Els, will ask a court in Pretoria on Monday to discharge him on three charges of molesting a boy.

His lawyer, Danie Dorfling, told the High Court at Pretoria he would bring an application to have Els acquitted, the South African Press Association reported.

Els, who now lives in New Zealand, has pleaded not guilty to the three sex-related charges.

He was accused of molesting singer Robbie Klay between the ages of 11 and 16, when the boy was a child star.

Mr Dorfling earlier told the court that Els, if he took the stand, would deny the allegations and would testify that Klay was lying to the court.

Klay says that while at first he had been sexually groomed by Els by means of watching pornography on the internet, this progressed and eventually lead to sexual violation when he was 11 years old.
