Police have released the name of the teenager killed when struck by a police car in Northland last night.
Rawire Wilson, 16, was killed when hit by a marked police car while walking along an unlit part of State Highway 1, in Ohaeawai at 11.45pm.
Another teenager who was hit and moderately injured was flown to Whangarei Hospital, police say.
Officers in the car were on routine patrol and were travelling from Kaikohe to Moerewa.
Both teenagers were from Kaeo, about 60km north of Kaikohe.
Three investigations - coronial, criminal and Independent Police Conduct Authority - have been launched in relation to the incident, Inspector Murray Hodson said.
Police were appealing for any witnesses who were in the area at the time to contact Detective Sergeant Sam Bindon of the Kaikohe police.
