A trial in the High Court at Timaru will adjourn early tomorrow to allow jurors and counsel to watch the Melbourne Cup on television.
Justice John Fogarty, with the consent of Crown prosecutors and defence counsel, decided to adjourn at 4.45pm, instead of the scheduled 5.00pm.
Justice Fogarty said it had become a tradition to adjourn early on Melbourne Cup day to avoid jurors with an interest in the event becoming distracted.
