Two arrested after drive-by shooting

Taupo police have arrested two people in connection with a drive-by shooting which left a teenager recovering in hospital after he took a shot in the stomach.

The victim was hit as he and a male friend walked to the shops in Taharepa Rd about 6.30pm on Wednesday, Taupo police area commander Inspector Steve Bullock said.

"The slug hit the 17-year-old in his lower abdomen area, lodging in his upper leg. He was operated on at Rotorua Hospital today."

Police said today a 17-year-old and a 19-year-old had been arrested and charged with wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm. but they were still looking for a third person.

The victim was not seriously injured and was expected to make a full recovery, Mr Bullock said

He said it was lucky no one was seriously injured in the shooting.

"Any incident involving a firearm has the potential to cause death or grievous bodily harm."

Police still wanted to hear from anyone else in the area at the time.
