Two get four years for kidnapping

Two men who kidnapped an innocent couple at gunpoint and stole their car were jailed in New Plymouth District Court today.

Jerome Teumuera Edwards, 18, unemployed, and Matthew Kane Tett, 18, were given terms of four years.

Sentencing of Thomas Teruihi Skipper, 17, was adjourned until tomorrow.

All three had earlier pleaded guilty to kidnapping, aggravated robbery and theft.

The trio held up the couple at the point of an air gun in Inglewood, Taranaki, on April 1, forced them into their own car and then stole it to get to Auckland.

Soon after the kidnapping the victims were dumped from the vehicle . Soon after that the offenders pinched $60 worth of petrol from a Waitara service station, 16km east of New Plymouth.

Judge Allan Roberts postponed the sentencing of Skipper until he had read submissions from the man's lawyer.
