Two people have been injured and part of State Highway 1 is closed after a two-car crash on the Kapiti Coast.
The crash happened just before 2pm at the intersection of SH1 and Beach Road at Paekakariki.
Inspector Ken Climo of central police communications said a large amount of debris had closed the northbound lane.
Police were contacted by a train driver at the scene.
A woman was trapped in her vehicle with chest injuries but had since been freed.
She and another person were taken to Wellington Hospital with moderate injuries.
