Wellington man remanded over bomb threat

A 34-year-old man has been remanded in custody after allegedly threatening to harm a Wellington bank teller and her family if she did not hand over $100,000.

Paul Williams appeared in Wellington District Court today accused of sending a note containing a bomb threat to one of the bank's tellers, which resulted in major disruption to the central city.

Williams was arrested at Sydney Airport before he could board a flight to Canada on December 17.

He was extradited back to New Zealand last night.

Williams has been remanded in custody until January 29.
