Labour confirms Parker for Epsom

Labour's economic development spokesman David Parker has been confirmed as the party's candidate for the Epsom electorate.

He will contest the seat at the November 26 election against ACT candidate John Banks, a former Auckland mayor and National politician, and National candidate Paul Goldsmith, who wrote Mr Banks' biography,

National has indicated it would not strongly push for the electorate vote and would focus on the party vote, which Labour has called a stitch-up to get ACT back into Parliament on Mr Banks' coattails.

Mr Parker, a list MP who formerly held the Otago seat, said today National and ACT had taken the people of Epsom for granted and treated them like sheep.

"In a democracy voters deserve to be shown respect by giving them a choice of who they want to vote for," he said.

"Labour will give the voters of Epsom a choice."
