A rise in the amount of scam phone calls has been noticed by Gore police.

Sergeant Eric Browne said the scams appear to be targeting the elderly more often than others.

"Be aware that bank or government officials will never ask for you personal information.

"They will never ask you to withdraw money or send it away," Sgt Browne said.

"If you suspect that you arebeing scammed or something doesn’t feel right, trust your intuition and call the police."

The scams try to convince members of the community to send cash abroad, he said.
