The Gore community can now offload unwanted electronics for recycling at Noel Leeming.
A partnership between WasteNet Southland and not-for-profit TechCollect means eligible e-waste can be dropped off at the Hokonui Dr business, free of charge.
Electronics would be collected and processed by TechCollect as part of their national e-waste stewardship scheme.
TechCollect NZ acting head of operations Daniel Tulloch said e-waste would be responsibly managed.
“Most of us have old electronics sitting around at home or at work that we no longer use, and quite often people simply don’t know what to do with them,” Mr Tulloch said.
“The more accessible we can make services like this, the easier it becomes for people to keep valuable materials out of landfill and give them another life.”
Accepted electronics for the year-round scheme included unwanted mobile phones, tablets, computers, monitors, keyboards and mice.
The partnership supported key priorities in Southland’s Waste Management Minimisation Plan, released in July, which was a collaboration between WasteNet Southland and all Southland councils.
Throughout the country, TechCollect NZ operates a network of over 40 free collection points, where electronics go through reuse, repair or recycling pathways.
A full list of accepted ICT equipment for collection can be found on the TechCollect NZ website.
