YouTube is back up and running after a two hour-long worldwide outage today.

The video-sharing site crashed about 2.16pm (NZ time).

YouTube has since shared a statement on Twitter clarifying the website was now working.

"We're back! Thanks for all of your patience. If you continue to experience issues, please let us know."

Earlier, people took to Twitter to share their dismay.

A live map showed YouTube outage hotspots across the United States; the northeast was hit particularly hard.
