A 42-year-old woman suffered minor rib injuries in a mountain bike accident at Cardrona Alpine Resort yesterday afternoon.
St John Ambulance Queenstown operations manager Keith Raymond said the Alexandra woman was flown by helicopter to Queenstown’s Lakes District Hospital at 1.30pm.
Cardrona Alpine Resort general manager Bridget Legnavsky said injured people were often flown down from ski mountains rather than driven.
"Often, it’s just as a precaution or when we think it’s in the best interests of the patient rather than being driven down the road."
The woman was attended to by first responders at the ski area, near Wanaka. Cardrona, owned by tourism firm Real Journeys Ltd, opens its slopes and main chairlift to mountain bikers in summer.
