A progress report written by project director Nick Hamlin was tabled at the Invercargill City Council infrastructure and projects committee yesterday.
In it, Mr Hamlin said the west wing roof was now complete, fire sprinklers were being installed, the floor slabs in the west wing were finished and all main structural steel installed.
"The project is tracking well within its overall budgets and allowances, but the project team will continue to review against any risks and mitigations will be put in place as required."
It was expected the west wing building would be finished by the end of the year, the east wing by February and the foyer by March.
Fitting out the building would not be finished until December next year.
It was not yet known when the opening day would be.
Councillors visited the site in June to check the progress.
During the discussion of the report, Mayor Nobby Clark said during the tour he had asked the Naylor Love manager if it would be possible for an open day to be held for the public in the new year.
The manager was positive to this happening, Mr Clark said.
"There’s a lot of interest in the site."
Mr Hamlin said by next year it would be possible to make a safe pathway through the construction site.
"I’ll talk to the project team on that."
