The Otago Rugby Football Union coaching trio of Greg Cooper, John Haggart and Russell Hawker covered new ground, in September 1985, when they conducted a coaching clinic at Columba College.
The visit was in response to a request to the Otago union from fifth-formers of the girls college.
"It is the first time we have been invited to coach at an all-girls school, and we are happy to go," Mr Hawker, the assistant promotions officer, said.
"They could be some of our future coaches of rugby, and especially if they become teachers on leaving school."
