Young Queenstown downhill mountain bike racer Nadia Everett’s on the road to recovery after a big crash in the Czech Republic last week.

Meanwhile, her older brother Reece had his best result of the season at the same event.

Their dad Glenn tells Mountain Scene that Nadia, 14, was airlifted to hospital after coming off her bike while racing in the under-15 category of the Propain Rookies Cup at the Koprivna Bike Park on August 9.

She was expected to be discharged from hospital on August 19 and return to the United Kingdom with mum Andrea, while Reece finishes his season over the next three weeks.

It was a weekend of mixed fortunes for the siblings, who’ve been criss-crossing Europe and the UK in a campervan with their parents while competing in downhill comps.

Reece, 15, had his best result of the season with a victory in the Pro U17 Downhill category of the Rookies Cup.

He began the weekend in style by winning the Whip Off, a jumping comp in which riders turn their bikes sideways in mid-air before straightening up to land.

Outrageous air: Reece Everett shows his winning style in the Whip Off at the Koprivna Bike Park, Czech Republic, last week.

As well as winning the U17 category, his time was the fastest among all U19 riders.

Glenn says Reece is sitting in third in the Rookies Cup standings after his win at Koprivna and a second place at an earlier round.

The fifth and final round’s in Winterberg, Germany, in a fortnight’s time.

Reece is 15th in the standings in the wider iXS European Downhill Cup series, with his most recent result a 13th in the fifth round, in Poland, on August 2.

Unfortunately, he won’t be able to compete in the remaining rounds of the iXS series because of race scheduling changes and visa requirements, Glenn says.

Instead, he’ll wrap up his season at the final round of the British national downhill series in Fort William, Scotland, on September 12-13.
