Queenstown Olympian and World Cup alpine skiing star Alice Robinson will headline a special event at Arthurs Point’s Cargo Brew Hall next month.
Robinson, who finished second in the World Cup Super G and was a regular fixture on the podium during the northern hemisphere winter, will share her season’s highlights during a fundraiser for the Queenstown Alpine Ski Team (QAST) on September 5.
In a double billing, NZSki CEO Paul Anderson will also provide an exclusive presentation of The Remarkables’ Doolans Expansion, outlining what the proposed development, for which NZSki is seeking fast-track approval, will mean for the future of skiing in Queenstown and New Zealand.
Next month’s event follows on from a hugely-successful fundraising event last year, featuring Robinson and one of her coaches, Tim Cafe, which raised $40,000 to help fund new ski racing gates, and high-quality cameras and tablets for on-hill video review, which are being widely used by coaches and athletes.
QAST programme director Damien O’Connell’s encouraging people from around the region to make a night of it in Arthurs Point.
“Alice has had remarkable results and we are so proud that she began her career in Queenstown with QAST, and of what she has managed to achieve on the world stage.
“We look forward to hearing what goes on behind the scenes at top-level alpine racing, and what comes next for her.”
O’Connell says the added attraction of a presentation about the “hugely-significant” Doolans project promises an outstanding evening for everyone.
The apres ski-themed event, which starts at 6pm, costs $150 per person, including food and drink.
There’ll also be a live auction, with all proceeds from the evening going towards the next generation of local ski racing stars.
