Mr Parker said the rain had been a concern but as early racing enthusiasts arrived, he had been optimistic there would be a full day of racing.
One of the highlights of the day was the "perfect track", which had only been finished on December 21.
"On December 8, we got news from Harness Racing New Zealand that our track was not safe to race on.
"There was contamination, clay, stones and bare patches, despite being built three years ago."
Committee members, volunteers and contractors, including Josh Gunn, of Lake Roxburgh Contracting, and Rob Craig, dug up the existing track, then laid 350 tonnes of sand.
Mr Parker said 240 tonnes had been transported by Millers Flat Transport from Dunedin, and the rest was salvaged from the existing track.
"It was a mammoth effort.
"Now we have a tip-top track, and if managed properly [it] should last us for 10 years.
"We had the option of repairing it but we decided to do the whole thing properly."
The new 993m track cost the club about $40,000.
Mr Parker thought about 3000 people attended.
Those who had tickets for the Central Otago Trotting Club’s cancelled meeting at Omakau were able to use them at Roxburgh.
