A record field of 800 riders lined up for the 12-Hour Naseby Challenge this year.
It was the eighth year of the R&R Sport-sponsored event. A capacity field was reached nine hours after entries opened on February 1 and 100 people remained on the waiting list, race director Craig Bates, of Mosgiel, said. Fifty-five individuals and 180 teams from all over the country took part.
The event began at 9am on Saturday. An 11km course took riders through the Larchview Holiday Park and the Naseby Forest.
"The course was slightly longer than last year, but we had to make changes because of logging in the forest, " Bates said.
Multisport champion Dougal Allan, of Wanaka, won the solo men's 12-hour race, completing 22 laps of the course. Ian Wright, Invercargill, was second (20 laps) and Andrew Mcleod, Wanaka, was third (18 laps).
Erin Greene, Dunedin, took top honours in the women's solo section, on 19 laps, followed by Anna Marie Davis, Dunedin (13 laps).
Ollie Whalley, Christchurch, won the single-speed solo men's race, after an "amazing effort" completing 22 laps, Bates said.
Simon Callaghan, Gore, was second (20 laps) and Scotty Cain, Dunedin, was third (19 laps).
Hannah Thorne, Dunedin, was fourth overall in the single-speed solo class, and was the first woman in that section, finishing 18 laps in the 12 hours.
A Christchurch team of Phil Patterson, Nick Clark, Brad Hudson, Jeremy Inglis and Mark Dunlop was the fastest team, completing 26 laps. Hudson also posted the fastest lap, 25min 6sec.
Sam Hope, Shannon Hope and Mary Gray, Dunedin, won the open women's team section with 22 laps.
