An ''absolutely brilliant'' book sale in Naseby on Monday raised between $2000 and $3000 for the operation of the township's information centre.
A 100m line formed outside the town hall as people waited to get into the sale and ''bought books by the bagload'', an organiser said.
Naseby Information and Craft Centre Committee chairwoman Hazel Harrison did not know how many people attended, because it was a case of ''heads down, bottoms up selling''.
Funds raised at this first book sale fundraiser would help pay for next year's operation of the information centre, as aside from a grant from the Central Otago District Council, it had to provide its own finances.
Mrs Harrison estimated the centre cost about $10,000 a year to run.
