Children go home until power fixed

The children have been sent home from Stand Children's Village, formerly known as the Roxburgh Children's Health Camp, and it could be up to a week before power is fully restored.

A small fire in the switchboard of its main building on Monday morning caused the power outage.

There was no damage to the building as the fire was isolated in the switchboard.

Village residential services team leader Dwight McDowell said the cause of the fire was not known but electricians were investigating.

He said insurance assessors would need to look at the switchboard before the electrician could replace the components. The 14 children at the camp had gone home to their families.

They were six days into a 32-day stay, Mr McDowell said.

They would return as soon as possible and their stays would be extended to make up for the lost time.
