Council delays planned centre

Plans to develop a new information centre at Cromwell have been delayed by six weeks - due to requests for more information.

At a Central Otago District Council district development committee meeting in Alexandra yesterday, councillors asked for further details about where the centre would be and how it would link to the Cromwell Mall.

Council visitor information centres manager Ingrid Temple prepared a statement of proposal, with details of the new centre, for councillors to approve for a public submission process.

It did not include a site plan showing where the centre would be in relation to the Cromwell Mall, nor where buses and cars could park.

Cr Neil Gillespie, of Cromwell, said people could not make a meaningful submission without such information and called for the committee to defer any decision until further details were added.

An estimation of how long the project would take was also needed, councillors said.

Mrs Temple said the council had asked for the concept to go out for public consultation before specific design details were decided.

Providing them would add six weeks to the process. rosie.manins@odt.co.nz
