The Independent Police Conduct Authority and police are investigating an incident involving an allegation of excessive use of force by an officer at the Cromwell police station.
IPCA senior communications adviser Stacey Smith said the incident occurred in October.
She declined to provide any further information.
Yesterday, the Otago Daily Times reported police were conducting an investigation into an incident regarding a police officer at the Cromwell station.
A Southern police spokeswoman confirmed yesterday two investigations were under way.
A police spokesman said no staff had been stood down while the matter was being investigated.
