Mayor elect Tim Cadogan has announced he will recommend Neil Gillespie continue in the role of deputy mayor.

Cr Gillespie has been deputy mayor since Tony Lepper was elected mayor in 2010.

"Neil plainly comes with all the qualities, qualifications and experience any Mayor would want in a deputy,'' Mr Cadogan said.

The council and mayor will be sworn in at the first council meeting for the new term on Wednesday, October 26. The heads and deputy heads of committees will also be appointed then.

Mr Cadogan said he discussed the appointment of deputy mayor when he met councillors individually last week and his recommendation had their universal backing.

Mr Cadogan unseated Mr Lepper as mayor, scoring 5334 votes to Mr Lepper's 2649.
