New community hub officially under way

Vincent Community Board chairman Jayden Cromb (left), Manuherekia Valleys Charitable Trust chairman Andrew Paterson and Central Otago deputy mayor Tracy Paterson break ground this week ahead of construction of the $4.1 million Manuherekia Valley Community Hub at Omakau.

Construction of the long-planned replacement of the existing Omakau hall and rugby clubrooms will include a 200-seat hall, meeting rooms, commercial kitchen, function room with bar, gym, changing rooms and a stage for school performances.

The Central Otago District Council says the facility will serve not just Omakau but the wider Central Otago region.
