New site found for recycling bin

Siting a recycling bin near the upgraded Roxburgh Entertainment Centre was not ideal, the Roxburgh Community Board was told recently. A new site has now been found.

The board, in conjunction with WasteBusters and the Central Otago District Council, has decided to place the bin on the old tennis courts behind the Roxburgh playground.

Board chair Stephen Jeffery said the recycling bin would be moved soon.

The new site and the date for the changeover would be advertised before the move, he said.

The board recently received a petition of 203 signatures objecting to the proposed site and recommending the container be sited at the town's transfer station.

- The board decided council-owned properties should get their water from the proposed Millers Flat water scheme. The council owns the Millers Flat Memorial swimming pool, hall, public toilet and cemetery.

The board also agreed to grant a lease to the Millers Flat Bowling Club after it was discovered that the club had no legal standing on the use of the reserve land it occupies.

No rental will be paid for the lease, which would be reviewable every three years. The $600 cost of the lease will be funded by a grant from the Roxburgh Community Board.
