Pyramid slowly drives through Central Otago

Many people over Central Otago could not work out what this huge pyramid shaped tower was on the back of a truck as it eased through Central Otago roads, slowing traffic and waiting for power lines to be lifted.

Alan Hale of Specialist Road Transporters said that it was an eight ton funnel that his company were transporting through the area to the Edendale dairy factory which is currently upgrading its facilities, which will eventually make it the largest in the country.

Mr Hale said progress was slow each day, but they had traveled from Timaru and had stopped in Roxburgh to refuel. He added that the crew would finish their day's work at Raes Junction, completing their mission into Southland on Friday.

Mr Hale who is from Pukekohe, and has done a couple previous trips bringing other equipment through to Edendale, commented that because of the slow speed of the truck he gets a good look at the South Island and is struck by its beauty, even in the day's drizzle.

"It makes a journey like this very nice, especially as atumn colors begin to show out " he said " Who would want to leave New Zealand for holidays, it is beautiful here!"
