A Cromwell cat is alleged to have gone on a crime spree, with pink shoes, in particular Crocs, being stolen.

Four-year-old Marlin is believed to have started stealing pink shoes a month ago, after moving on from cleaning cloths.

Marlin’s owner Elise Jaunay said there was more to the story.

Miss Jaunay, who is pregnant, wondered if Marlin’s choice in shoes was a message to her regarding the sex of her baby.

"It’s like he knows something," she said.

One particular pair of pink Crocs has been stolen three times by Marlin, with Miss Jaunay wondering if the shoes will be stolen again after she returns them.

"It will be interesting to see if they come back" she said.

She said Marlin has been stealing since he was a kitten.

He started off taking rubbish, before moving on to bagged nuts and bolts from nearby building sites.

When he was done with nuts and bolts, he moved on to cleaning cloths and steel wool, and then to shoes.

Miss Jaunay estimated there were at least 20 cleaning cloths underneath her home, all put there by the cat.

Locals are advised to keep an eye on their footwear, especially pink Crocs.
