Alexandra residents were out in force yesterday to see a computerised model of both roading options for the Centennial Ave, Tarbert St and Dunorling St intersection.
Transit New Zealand plans to alter the busy intersection on State Highway 8 and install either a roundabout or traffic lights.
More than 100 people visited the Opus offices in Alexandra to see which option they preferred.
Transit Otago area engineer John Jarvis said the team was able to speak to almost everyone and to listen to their ideas.
Some would be looked at when the engineering designs were made.
Mr Jarvis said a good cross-section of the community had visited the display.
Pedestrian crossings and access for mobility scooters were discussed. There would be pressure pads to operate traffic lights for pedestrian crossings outside the L.J. Hooker building to cross to St Enoch's Church and near the monument to cross to Pioneer Park.
Alternatively, a pedestrian walkway which relied on the pedestrian making the decision when to cross would be the option for the roundabout system.
Part of both options encroached on to the grass berm outside Pioneer Park but would not require removal of any trees, Mr Jarvis said.
The information gathered from public comments would now be collated and a report written on the final option.
The report would be presented to the Central Otago District Council and then to Transit to apply for funding.
The project will be funded by Land Transport New Zealand.
