Bannockburn's artistic community is showcasing its work this weekend, starting with the opening of the 12th Bannockburn Art Exhibition last night.
Held in the Cairnmuir Woolshed, the exhibition covered a wide range of art including sculptures, paintings, jewellery, photography, handmade guitars and, for the first time, glass art.
Bannockburn Charitable Arts Trust trustee Christine O’Donnell said the event showed the amount of talent in the area.
"We’re about supporting local artists and giving them an opportunity to [display] their work", she said.
Sixty pieces of work from about 20 artists were on show.
For the first time, the exhibition had used professional curators to design the display.
Ms O’Donnell said this helped the exhibition tell a story, by comparing and contrasting elements in artists’ work.
"It’s just about letting the work speak."
By grouping an artist’s work together, a viewer could appreciate the message it sent.
Other work was grouped by style.
"When you see it [with] ... other work that is similar, you get a deeper understanding."
She hoped the event could continue to be a social and cultural occasion for people in the area "to see and understand the depth of talent that is in the community and to share it with others."
It let the public "meet people and talk to them and really get an understanding of what people do."
Seeing other people’s creativity was inspiring, regardless of how it was expressed, she said.
Artists featured this year had been inspired to put their work forward after seeing previous exhibits, she said.
The weekend also included a sold-out glass workshop and private tour of sculpture at Poison Creek.
The exhibition will run at the Cairnmuir Woolshed in Bannockburn, from 10am until 3.30pm today and tomorrow.
