A burst pipe in Alexandra left residents without water for several hours yesterday morning.

The Central Otago District Council asked residents to conserve water and put off ‘‘irrigation, laundry and dishwashing’’ duties as contractors remedied the issue.

A split pipe in Success St was identified as the cause. Council contractors had repaired the pipe by 11.44am yesterday, however, it reiterated the need to conserve water for the remainder of the day as low water levels at a reservoir in the town had to be replenished.
