Work to prevent rock falls means delays to continue

Motorists encountered 10-minute delays and 30kmh speed restrictions yesterday between Makarora and The Neck at Lake Hawea, and there will be further delays between 9am and 4pm at that site today.

Scaling work is being done to prevent rock falls during the freeze-thaw winter cycle.

The work is taking place between Wharf Creek Bridge and Boundary Creek Bridge and caution was advised, a Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency advisory said.

Scaling work is also being done all month on cliffs above State Highway 8 in the Cromwell Gorge.
