Bike run to help toddler

A motorcycle poker run in North Otago today will raise money for Jade Moffatt, the Oamaru toddler born with his bowel outside his body.

Organiser Andrea Fletcher expected at least 100 motorcycles to turn out.

Participants will meet at the Galleon complex by 11am to register and get their first card for a hand of poker.

They will then ride back roads, with various stops to get a card, before returning to the Galleon for a barbecue and auction.

Last year, 50 motorcycle enthusiasts took part in the inaugural event, which raised money for kidney transplant recipient Shelby Paterson.

Jade, who turns 3 in March, has frequent stays in hospital and money raised will go towards his family's medical costs.

Jade has been in Dunedin Hospital this week, but it was hoped to have him out for the day today, if he was well enough, his grandmother, Lynn Moffatt, said.
